APRIL 23 - 2010 MICHIGAN LAND AND PROSPERITY SUMMIT
National and state leaders are working on an array of crucial issues at the nexus of land use and prosperity-such issues as green infrastructure, revitalizing metro areas, farmland protection, renewable energy, entrepreneurialism, strategic growth, regional placemaking, new agriculture and more. Moreover, importantly, these issues are dovetailing with Washington's emphasis for national economic recovery.

On Friday, April 23, 2010, the annual Michigan Land and Prosperity Summit will include a timely focus on how Michiganians can work across multiple levels-federal, state, regional, local-to harness new opportunities to move our state forward, especially those that are in line with emerging priorities out of Washington D.C., such as "place-based" economic policies. Several hundred people are expected to attend the event, which will take place at the Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center on the campus of Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI. At this year's Summit, presenters will promote information-sharing, learning and dialogue about the current and emerging policy landscape, cutting-edge academic research, analysis, models and strategies for building prosperous places. Attendees will represent leaders from philanthropy; planning associations; universities; businesses; federal, state and local governments; nonprofits; and economic development agencies, among others-all united around the common goal of positioning Michigan for a new economic future. In addition to keynote presentations and an expert panel discussion, attendees will have the opportunity to network with colleagues, meet New Economy thought leaders and drive the discussion themselves about land use and prosperity through an "Open Space" breakout session.

Registration is now available online. Cost to attend is $50 per person ($20 for students) and includes conference materials and meals. Space is limited, so be sure to register early for this exciting event. Michigan Citizen Planner will also be offering Master Citizen Planner Continuing Education Units for this event (more details coming soon). To register and learn more, visit Michigan Land and Prosperity Summit. Be sure to check future editions of "This Week at the Land Policy Institute" for Summit updates.
